What is the Open Install Forum (OIF)

The Open Install Forum (OIF) emerged in response to the evolving needs of today's software ecosystems. Its core mission is to promote a more transparent dialogue about software installation practices, balancing fair application deployment with user security and support. The OIF focuses on fostering understanding, dialogue, and education regarding the development and impact of software policies. Regular meetings are convened, bringing together a diverse group of industry participants, including industry leaders, emerging platforms, and regulatory bodies, to discuss and share best practices.

When does the OIF meet?

  • Currently the OIF meets monthly with all observing members

  • Core contributing members meet bi-weekly

  • We also meet quarterly for a face to face conference for all contributing and observing member

What is the output?

The OIF provides regular written suggestions on best practices and policies for software operating systems, firmware providers and policy makers actively involved in improving the methods for which users install applications

What is the Open Install Alliance (OIA) ?

The OIA consists of a group of mobile operators, OEMs, ecosystem enablers and policy makers who meet regularly to help set policies for a safe yet open ecosystems for users to install applications on their various devices

Who can join the OIA?

The OIA is constantly striving for individuals and groups with a diverse set of views on the evolving software landscapes s it pertains to how users could and should be able to install applications on their various devices. Anyone can join the OIA however eligibility will be based on background and ability to contribute to the working group
